Anyone else feel weird saying fiance? Mr Pug and I feel sort of weird saying it sometimes to others. Condescending, sort of. Like when I went to pick up Mr Pug some RedMango (my obsession) I had to ask him about how to save it. It's simple... "My fiance isn't going to be home for an hour or two, would you put it in the freezer?" Such a nothing question with such a fancy word in the middle. It seems out of place. Boyfriend or Husband would make that sentence so much less presumptuous! (In my opinion anyway.) Personally I can't wait to use husband and wife. What do you think?

I agree that fiance sounds so pretentious.
ReplyDeleteI totally feel the same way! I've been accused of "demoting" my fiance because I sometimes call him my boyfriend. I've gotten more used to it but it somehow feels like I'm begging for people to congratulate me, especially if I'm mentioning my fiance to someone new. Oh, and Love the Seinfeld clip!
ReplyDeleteI feel weird about saying it too. On my blog I like to write "The Mr." or occasionally just "FI", and in real life I've gotten a little better about calling him by his real title, but still frequently revert back to just "my hubby."
ReplyDeleteI COMPLETELY agree!!! Jimmy has caught me talking to others and refer to him as my boyfriend. He gets a little grumpy and always chimes in and says, "Hey, I'm your fiancé, not your boyfriend." My one manager hates the word, too so she's already referring to him as my husband.

I feel like I'm bragging sometimes lol it's just a word I don't like much... prefer husband so much more! :) We are almost there! Love your you tube clip hahaha
ReplyDeleteI had a super hard time saying fiance too! I would always leave out the word or *blushing* just say husband, especially to people I didn't know! To those I did know, it was Rick all the way! Now that we're married I'm having a tough time getting use to saying husband. Guess it will just take time :)
ReplyDeleteYou took the words right out of my mouth! The first few months we kept saying boyfriend/girlfriend, but now I always say fiance and it just feels so snooty. "My fiance and I are going to pick pumpkins this weekend." Whenever possible I just try to use his first name, but I can't wait to say hubby/hubster/hubband/hubs/husband...the choices really are endless. :)

ReplyDeleteI don't know why, I've been engaged for 3 years, but I just cannot get used to the word "fiance". Even in blog posts I call him FH not FI.
So glad I am not alone. I always feel so weird!
